1)get quick back links from websites links
2)Improve the status of seo keywords
3)driven more traffic from websites link
We should always remember that directory submission does not get approval instantly or soon, so we can submit many so that at-least we start getting some when it get started getting approved.
It is fixed and depends on you that how much directory submissions you do.
Directory submission is more like a link scheme now.
So I don't think if it is still applicable, besides big directory submission sites like yahoo directory has already closed.
Directory submission are very efficient and need to be done carefully. On a regular basis you could do 1-2 directory submissions for a better performance in SEO.
It's okay to do directory submission but take into consideration that you need to wait for a few days or even a few weeks for your blog to be approved. And sometimes it happens that a blog doesn't get approved, because of the lack of quality, usually.
Directory submission is nothing but process of submitting you website URL to relevant categories of your website. This one is the effective off page activity
Directory submissions are no more important as these websites are considered as spam by Google. These sites have very less content and hence Google rarely crawls and index them.
you can submit in old directory list ie dmoz, onemission, 5+ year older directory list is fine you can submit.
I'd still recommend DMOZ, but not other directories. You'd be better off listing your company locally with Google+, Angieslist, Yelp, YellowPages, Local and others like this.
DMOZ — The Open Directory Project that uses human editors to organize websites — is closing. It marks the end of a time when humans, rather than machines, tried to organize the web.
The announcement came via a notice that’s now showing on the home page of the DMOZ site, saying it will close as of March 14, 2017.
