    What Is Blackhat SEO

What is Blackhat SEO? For everything good in the world, there is always evil lurking in the dark somewhere, waiting to rear its ugly head. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is plagued with a similar nemesis. Where there are whitehat optimization techniques that have the whole-hearted approval of search engines; blackhat techniques are the black sheep in the eyes of search engines. Aside from risking the wrath of the search engines, they also do nothing to gather the attention of their audience – they only boost the page rank.

Blackhat - The Bad Guy in SEO, Revealed

Now, we delve deeper into the question: what is Blackhat SEO? Blackhat SEO techniques intentionally, and often illegally, influence the search engine to increase the ranking of a website on search results. Unlike whitehat whose main focus is on having original content for the audience, black hat focus solely on conning the web crawlers into giving them a higher page rank. Obviously, these methods are not condoned by the search engines and there are serious repercussions like possible banning or even removal of the site. Blackhat SEO aggressively manipulate the search engines by spamdexing, using paid links and grossly redistributing and reusing words to form useless content.

    How do you do it?
Blackhat SEO is actually a lot easier than whitehat SEO, though some might tell you it needs creativity. It is all about knowing how the search engines rank pages and finding loopholes in their algorithms. If you already know what is Blackhat SEO, you should know that these practices are strongly disapproved.

    Spamdexing
No one likes spam but it can apparently come in handy if you know what to do. If you know how search engines rank pages, you might have an idea that having many links lead to your page improves the rank of your page. Blackhat SEO takes advantage of that fact by leaving a string of spams on blogs and forums with menial comments and links to their pages. Many search engines remain on the lookout of an occurrence of spamdexing, and consequently rid their indexes of such nemesis.

    Hidden Content
This is a very popular tactic that totally preys on the weaknesses of search engines, staying true to the definition of blackhat SEO. By planting white words on a white background or black words on a black background, they essentially make these words invisible to human eyes. But search engines still parse them anyway and spike the page rankings, obliviously, based on the words. If humans are unfortunate enough to read that gibberish, their experience on your websites is degraded. A better (or worse) way of doing this is by adding these words to the code for the page as a comments tag. If suspected, the website could be removed or banned.

Using Meta Tags To Do Your Dirt Work
The idea is to use the meta tags of your website – Tags that are meant to portray the content of the page – and use keywords repetitively to give the rank of your page a spike. Unfortunately, for the blackhat groupies, search engines are well aware of the misuse and rarely, if ever use this tag in page ranking algorithms.

    Keyword Stuffing
Keyword stuffing entails positioning the keywords carefully and calculatedly, such that the page achieves a certain keyword density that the search engine deems relevant. But most search engines are not fooled by this, as they are able to detect keyword stuffing.
I hope that the audience of this article is merely curious and not those who don’t know better than to engage in blackhat SEO, because although it may work for a while, the results are short-lived and there is also a risk of penalty or removal of your site. Hopefully, now you know what is Blackhat SEO.

BlackHat is a phrase commonly associated with the ne'er do wells of the internet.

I was trained as a network admin and they were our worst nightmare, usually appearing as quite organized and sophisticated hackers. Not your average script kiddie.

"Black Hat" search engine optimization is customarily defined as techniques that are used to get higher search rankings in an unethical manner. These black hat SEO techniques usually include one or more of the following characteristics:
    • breaks search engine rules and regulations
    • creates a poor user experience directly because of the SEO techniques utilized on the Web site
    • unethically presents content in a different visual or non-visual way to search engine spiders and search engine users.
